Institutes of the Innovationsallianz Baden Württemberg

A motley collection of non-university, business-related research institutions operate in Baden Württemberg, courtesy of research institutions financed primarily by the Federal Government and the states. These 12 institutes have joined their forces in the Innovations Allianz Baden Württemberg. They are supported institutionally by the State and are key players to identify and develop new technologies. They are legally-independent institutes in the legal form of foundations and associations under civil law. If they are branch-oriented, they are brought under the wing of industry research unions and associations, and as such receive support.

The institutes of the Innovationsallianz have developed clear cut individual characteristics and clear core competences. Thanks to many years' experience in collaboration with business and industry, the institute is in a position to accelerate the transfer of basic research results into the mainstream economy.

The suite of services provided by the institutes is aimed above all at small- and medium-sized businesses, for whom they have become vital partners in technology transfer. They secure research assignments from business and industry, and take part in publicly-supported (joint) projects. The range of services extends beyond advice alone and includes further education and training; at the more branch-oriented institutes, research-related testing services and surveys are also offered.

The directors of most institutes also occupy teaching posts or direct a university institute. In this way, an intensive exchange of knowledge and people is ensured between the research institutes and universities.

Some of the institutes listed below (those marked with an *) are included in the innovation network of the study group of "Otto-von-Guericke" industrial research associations (AIFs).
