International Co-operation
Research and development thrive on international exchanges and cross-border co-operation. Examples of international co-operation include research related collaboration with eastern and south east Asian countries, South American countries, central and eastern European countries as well as with the USA. Co-operation between institutions includes a partnership between the German University in Budapest and the German University in Cairo, while examples of cross-border co-operation include the activities of the international Lake Constance Conference and the Upper Rhine Trinational Metropolitan Region (TMO).
In addition to numerous international scientific co-operation agreements by universities, the involvement of both universities and companies is becoming ever more important in the EU’s research support programme. Attention is focussed on the backing and coordination of universities as part of the 7th Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration, as well as involvement on a Federal Assembly level in questions of support for European research.
