The mutual advantages of combining strong science and strong partnerships are evident. Consequently, both Canada and the EU seek to expand research collaboration, especially where large-scale projects and multinational consortia are concerned. Canadian researchers can participate fully in consortia supported by the European Union's Sixth Framework Program (FP6). Thus the tradition of strong Canadian participation established in FP4 and FP5 will continue.
Experience has shown that partnering has many benefits - each side gains exposure to ideas, knowledge, technologies, facilities, and most importantly, people. The synergy means that more gets done for the same cost. Indeed, sometimes more gets done for less! Duplication is reduced, complementary research initiatives become more than the sum of their parts, and the critical mass of experts create a climate of intellectual dynamism that fuels innovation.
Canada has planned ambitiously for FP6. A delegation of over 45 Canadians attended the FP6 Launch Conference in Brussels, where Canadian initiatives included a "Partner With Canada" Exhibitor's Booth and a 3-hour Canadian Participant's Session entitled "Canada and Europe: Building R&D Partnerships under FP6". Our message is clear: Europe is a key and valued S&T partner and Canada seeks to make our relationship thrive and expand, at all levels.
We invite you to join us in advancing this important partnership. Visit the new Canada-EU S&T Cooperation Website, available in English and French.
