Working since September 1994 as Scientific Officer in the IT programme Esprit, with particular focus on Dissemination, Technology Transfer and Exploitation of RTD results. This activity involves the management of the industrial, technical, contractual and financial aspects of projects of Dissemination, Technology Transfer and Industrial Impact within the IT programme.

In particular, responsible for PROSOMA esprit, a virtual permanent on-line exhibition to facilitate the access and uptake of the results of the IT programme.

Before joining the Commission, Peter Baur worked for 10 years in the IT industry.

PROSOMA ESPRIT: Turning Innovation into Business.

For many organisations the completion of an Esprit project is only the first step towards a successful business case. To make the most of their results further work is needed, either to fine-tune the results or to make the jump from pilot or demonstration-scale to full commercial product.

To provide more focused support for successful exploitation, a new service, PROSOMA Esprit, has been launched to help businesses benefit from the successes achieved in Esprit. The service was launched by the European Commission - Directorate General III (Industry) - and provides a virtual meeting between those whose participation in Esprit has contributed to the technology base for the Information Society, and those who can benefit from what has been achieved. The PROSOMA Esprit Service helps to increase the industrial impact of the Esprit programme by facilitating access to and uptake of research results. It aims to bridge the gap between research and the marketplace.

The PROSOMA Esprit service provides a means for companies who are looking for innovative solutions to their needs to identify relevant RTD results. It also enables businesses to learn from the experiences of others in developing and applying best practice. Those who has participated in Esprit can show potential business partners what they have achieved, with a view to licensing agreements, collaboration on further developments or broadening their user base.

The participants in Esprit present their results through interactive multimedia presentations, continuously updated, which are accessible via World Wide Web and on cd-rom. Each presentation can link to the web sites of the companies concerned, providing visitors with useful background information, and putting the result in the contact of other products and services. There is also a link to CORDIS, the Community's RTD information service.
