28.02.2005 The Council has approved the eContentplus programme
The 4-year programme (2005-08), proposed by the European Commission, will have a budget of € 149 million to tackle the fragmentation of the European digital content market and improve the accessibility and usability of geographical information, cultural content and educational material (More...)

19.02.2004 Launch of eConent Partners finding service
A new eContent Partners finding service was launched on the Content Village web-site.

14.02.2004 Fourth Call for proposals launched - closing date 14 May 2004
The Commission launched the 4th Call for Proposals for the eContent programme on the 14th February 2004. The call seeks proposals for demonstration projects for Cross-border information services based on public sector information (Action line 1.1.) and strengthening the linguistic infrastructure (Action Line 2.2.).

14.02.2004 Third Call Continuous submission scheme deadline moved to 14 May 2004
The deadline for the submission of proposals for feasibility projects under the  3rd call for proposals, continuous submission scheme has been moved to the 14th May 2004 at 17h00 (Luxembourg time) to coincide with the deadline for the fourth call. The Commission published a  Corrigendum on the 14th February 2004 replacing the previous call text. This call addresses all parts of Action Lines Public sector information (1) and Multilingual and multicultural environment (2).

13.02.2004Update of the Work programme 2003 - 2004
An 
update to the eContent work programme 2003-2004 was adopted on the 13th February 2004, it provides updated information on the actions to be carried in 2004 and the corresponding budgetary allocations. The  current work programme 2003-2004 remains applicable for 2004 in all those provisions that are not the subject of this update.

 14.07.03: Indicators for European Digital Content for the Global Networks
The study on "indicators for European digital content for the global networks" was carried out as part of the eEurpe benchmarking activities, monitoring developments which are indicative of what is happening in the Information Society. The main focus was to measure the content usage in terms of origin and reach of the top 50 websites in the EU and the US. Read more.

01.07.03 Turkey to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkey, allowing the Turkey to participate in the eContent Programme. The terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Turkey shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

01.07.03: Lithuania to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lithuania, allowing Lithuania to participate in the eContent Programme. The terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Lithuania shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

19.03.03:  Czech Republic to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Czech Republic, allowing the Czech Republic to participate in the eContent Programme. The terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Czech Republic shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

19.03.03: Romania to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with Romania, allowing Romania to participate in the eContent Programme. The terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Romania shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

20.01.03: Malta to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Malta, allowing Malta to participate in the eContent Programme. The terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Malta shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

20.01.03: Slovenia to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Slovenia, allowing Slovenia to participate in the eContent Programme. As of June 1 2002 the terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Slovenia shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

20.12.02: eContent 3rd call for proposals launched on 20 December 2002.
3rd Call for proposals of the eContent programme was published in Official Journal C 320 of 20.12.02. A new Work Programme is adopted for the years 2003 and 2004.

25.11.02: Poland to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Poland, allowing Poland to participate in the eContent Programme. As of June 1 2002 the terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Poland shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

01.10.02: Estonia to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Estonia, allowing Estonia to participate in the eContent Programme. As of June 1 2002 the terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Estonia shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

24.09.02: Experts requested - also from the candidate countries
As part of the open call for applications for inclusion on the lists of project evaluators and reviewers, and in view of the ongoing opening of the eContent programme to include the Candidate Countries, the eContent Programme is seeking to broaden its pool of experts. In this context all applicants are welcome. In particular, those from the candidate countries, or with specific experience of these countries, are requested.

24.09.02: Results of 2nd call for proposals now available
Results of 2nd call for proposals, second fixed deadline call & third evaluation of the continuous submission scheme are now available.

16.09.02: Latvia to participate in the eContent Programme
The European Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Latvia, allowing Latvia to participate in the eContent Programme. As of June 1 2002 the terms and conditions applicable to the submission and selection of applications by eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of Latvia shall be the same as those applicable to eligible institutions, organisations and individuals of the Member States of the European Union.

10.06.02: Launch of Content Village
The "Content Village" web-site was launched in order to foster dynamic interaction among all those concerned with the eContent programme.

07.06.02: Proposal for Directive on Public Sector Information
On 5th June 2002 the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Directive on the re-use and commercial exploitation of public sector information.

12.04.02. Work programme discussions and consultations
Work programme discussions and consultations on priority areas for the econtent programme for the years 2003 and 2004 are scheduled for the period September to November. Call III is expected to be published in December this year.

The Commission adopts the proposal for a "Multiannual Community programme to stimulate the development and use of European digital content on the global networks and to promote the linguistic diversity in the Information Society".

Commission proposes ambitious eEurope Action Plan
The European Commission has presented its contribution to the eEurope Action Plan, due to be agreed by EU leaders at the Feira Summit on 19-20 June. It sets out a strategy to address key barriers to the uptake of the Internet in Europe and ensure that the conditions are set for a decisive move towards the new economy. It proposes that Member States and the Commission bind themselves to achieving the following three objectives quickly : a cheaper, faster, more secure Internet ; investing in people's skills and access ; and stimulating the use of the Internet. All key elements should be in place by 2002. The thrust of the plan is to accelerate legislation, roll out infrastructure and services across Europe and open coordination between Member States - including benchmarking activities by the Commission.

17.12.99: Budget
The European Commission budget authority grants a budget of 10 MEURO for preparatory actions for a follow-on programme to INFO2000 and MLIS for the year 2000.

02.12.99 Exit INFO2000
The last meeting of the INFO2000 steering committee (Infocom) was held, and the programme formally ended. However, INFO200 projects have been started also in the end of 1999. Some INFO2000 projects will end only late in 2001.
