The aim of the project is to fabricate a viable electroluminescent device from Si based materials and structures. For this purpose we will investigate two very similar systems from the point of view of the structure, namely nanocrystalline Si/SiO2 and Si/CaF2 superlattices.
Both these systems have already demonstrated they were able to present intense, rather stable and reproducible photoluminescence in the visible range at room temperature. Moreover a certain tuning is possible by varying the thickness of the Si layers.
To reach the objectives, we propose the following approach:
To achieve these objectives, the partners of the project have been selected for their competence, their history and their complementary background and knowledge in the field of Si-based luminescent structures and devices.
