The aim of this project is to develop chaotic nonlinear dynamical solutions for applications in digital communications and signal processing which is competitive with current technology in terms of simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and design flexibility.
The objectives of the project are:
The performance of chaotic modulation, spreading and watermarking will be evaluated quantitatively, comparing the state-of-the-art in nonlinear dynamical systems research with conventional techniques in each application domain. The relative advantages and disadvantages of the proposed solutions will be identified and documented. Prototype hardware and software systems will be developed to demonstrate proof-of-concept and to facilitate technology transfer to industry.
The expected results are:
A second objective of the project is to exploit chaos in digital watermarking. Theoretical studies towards performance improvements against attacks will be performed. Human perceptual characteristics will be employed. Modification and improvement of existing techniques will be done. The results will be integrated into prototypes/demos.
The progress of the project towards commercialisation will be guided by the Industrial Advisory board. An active dissemination policy will be adopted through scientific publications and workshops.
The development of chaotic codes and a DCSK communication system within INSPECT will produce software and hardware prototypes and reports detailing the theoretical and experimental performance of chaos in digital communications. These definitive results, and the associated simulators and design rules, which are not available on the world market, will give European manufacturers of telecommunications equipment a lead in incorporating this technology into their products.
