Software development in Europe is characterised by large numbers of smaller software production groups, each focusing on their own application domain and each with differing needs. Providing such groups and companies with the knowledge gained from industry experience and best practice approaches is a real challenge. Yet this is the task of EPIC and EUREX, two projects that represent an important part of the ESSI initiative to raise awareness on software process improvement.
The EPIC project aims to disseminate the experience of software process improvement already gained by the project partners within their own development activities. Using advanced multimedia communications technologies, the project plan is targeting middle management in both non-IT organisations and smaller IT companies, and includes ten seminars, half of which are dedicated to specific application domains (e.g. telecoms, banking, industry, software houses, etc.) and the other half to specific process improvement topics (e.g. quality, testing, ISO 9000, etc.).
The EUREX project is taking the experiences gained from the ESSI process improvement experiments and making them available at some 18 regional workshops and a pan-European workshop and conference, disseminating the results together with expert commentary in easy to publish form (book, CD-ROM, Web pages, etc.). The material from the pan-European conference will also form the basis of a new Springer-Verlag book series, the Software Best Practice Reports.
Visitors to the stand can receive information on forthcoming workshops, conferences, studies and papers, all aimed at disseminating the lessons learnt from ongoing ESSI software process improvement experiments.
