Multilingual workflow management tool enables organisations to manage geographically-dispersed work processes and resources using the common Web browser paradigm
Managing evolving and in many cases mission-critical work processes in widely-dispersed geographic markets can be a difficult task. This is the challenge facing more and more organisations, in the telecoms and entertainment industries for example, as their marketplace becomes a global one.
A consortium within the W4 (World Wide Web Workflow) project has built on research carried out under two earlier Esprit initiatives to offer a solution to this problem. The project partners have developed a flexible, multilingual workgroup tool combining the power of a proven workflow engine with Internet technology to support organisational production and workflow needs, including support for remote/mobile managers and office workers. The W4 application handles workflows for both predefined and variable work processes, and offers flexible task assignment, viewing of the various workflow sub-processes and a range of tools for work process building, customisation, administration, supervision and audit.
W4 conforms to the Web browser paradigm and is capable of being hosted by any platform with an Internet browser, even set-top boxes. The product is aimed at systems integrators, value-added resellers and independent software suppliers, enabling them to augment their product portfolio to help implement customer projects. W4 is in current use by several major corporations in France, and the consortium now plans to market it worldwide.
Visitors to the stand at EITC can see the W4 application's workflow management capabilities being demonstrated on a Windows NT server and a PC workstation.
