Objectives
Technological developments are driven by the need to compete in a global market. To give European industry a competitive edge in the markets of the future, requires a strategy and vision of the challenges ahead.
New working practices will bring increased mobility and working from home, requiring cross functional, multi-skilled teams working over an extended environment. National standards will gradually be replaced by international ones, as industry takes a more global outlook. Environmental issues need to be built into every stage of the product life-cycle, leading to sustainable development. IT will allow for greater flexibility in terms of organisational design.
The goal of Integration in Manufacturing activities is to accelerate and enhance the ability of the European manufacturing industry to capitalise on the emergence of the global information infrastructure, through the development of new IT solutions. The objectives are,
