On 20-21 February the European Commission's TACIS programme is organising the first "CIS Partenariat - Forum for Business Cooperation between SMEs" in Moscow. The aim is to foster trade and investment ties between SMEs from the CIS, Mongolia, the European Union and Central and Eastern Europe. Representatives from more than 700 SMEs have been invited to attend, where they will have the opportunity to meet over 150 potential partners from Moscow City and Oblast, the host region. An exhibition accompanies this event, and Esprit will be represented on the European Commission's stand.

In parallel with this event, on 21 February and also in Moscow, the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information is hosting a conference on electronic commerce, organised in association with the Brussels-based IIAT and featuring presentations by senior Russian officials and Esprit staff. The objective is to raise awareness of current applications of electronic commerce in the European Union and inform Russian industrialists and governmental authorities of the potential and opportunities now becoming apparent. Information will be provided on Esprit's planned thematic call on electronic commerce, which launches on 15 March; on current Esprit activities in electronic commerce; and on the possibilities for non-EU organisations to participate in the Esprit programme.
