OMI/SAFE (23920)
The OMI/SAFE project will contribute to the definition and the implementation of a complete development process for safety-critical software, which can assure safety and guarantee maximum software portability and reusability for embedded systems. The approach is to combine 3 relevant technological and methodological sectors:
All these technologies, although at a different level, are mature enough to justify an effort to combine their strength in the area of support for safety critical systems, an area of growing industrial relevance. ANDF is considered one of the pillars of OMI strategy and is key to reach true software portability.
The OMI/SAFE project will enhance the use of ANDF for safety-critical applications while applying it to a real life safety-critical application - the ongoing real-time development of Thomson-CSF with Crouzet Automatismes(pantograph control for TGV high-speed trains) and will contribute to the definition and the implementation of a complete development process for safety-critical software systems.
The project will demonstrate:
Future users of the technology and methods developed are companies and institutions involved with application software within the Space, avionics, transportation and energy production industries.
Achievements:
The ANDF technology is considered mature. ANDF based tools have been used in various projects also within the OMI (example OMI/ANTICRASH). Besides, The DDC-I Ada95 compiler, developed under the OMI/CORE project, is now available for application development. OMI/SAFE will verify that Ada/ANDF is suitable for safety-critical application development.
Regarding retargeting, there exist installers for numerous high-end processors, but a part of this project is to develop, very quickly, an ANDF installer for the ST9 microcontroller and to prove that this effort is useful in a real safety-critical application.
