Food testers tested

A JRC workshop brought together representatives of food control laboratories in the candidate countries, to gather information on the implementation of EU food law. The aim was to assess the present analytical capabilities and to identify their needs for collaboration, training and technical workshops.

At cross purposes

If genetically modified crops are grown alongside conventional and organic crops in Europe, how far might they turn up where they are not wanted? A new study uses a range of scenarios to model what might happen and looks at the agricultural and economic consequences.

Where the bee sucks

Accurate scientific data are vital in predicting the impact of growing genetically modified crops on a large scale. A recent 'experts' corner' report from the European Environment Agency assesses the evidence on how far pollen can spread modified genes from six food crops that are close to commercial exploitation in Europe.
