A series of techniques known as TRIZ can be used to encourage inspirational ideas, particularly in the creation of inventions.
 
Jobs from technology
Technological development drives growth and productivity, but its effect on jobs is less straightforward. Till now, policies to create a social return from technology have been piecemeal, and the benefits have been unequally shared. With more co-ordination, the OECD says, labour-saving need not mean throwing more people out of work.
 
An equal chance to innovate
The world is globalising and the knowledge society is here, so Europe needs to innovate. So far so good. But what sort of innovation do we need? In Innover ou Subir (Innovate or Go Under), European Commissioner Edith Cresson says innovation must be social, not just economic. This means expanding access to education and training, and giving everyone an equal opportunity.
