A conference entitled 'WliT Paris 2014: Women's Issues in Transportation' will take place from 14 to 16 April 2014 in Paris, France.

Few studies so far consider the ways in which the effects of transportation policy decisions might differ for particular segments of the population. Women, for instance, face significant concerns related to family, work, health, and safety that complicate their daily lives. These concerns contribute to their need for travel and to the constraints they face in attempting to meet those needs. Women drive to work, to daycare, to shopping, or to medical appointments. This adds to the time and cost of meeting their personal and household needs.

The conference aims to build on the research over women's transportation issues from the past decades, and to broaden its perspective by considering women's issues in transportation with a more balanced perspective - i.e. of women not just as passive recipients of transport services, but as actors in sustainable access and safe mobility research, policy development, governance and oversight, service delivery and business expansion. The conference will be a forum for stakeholders to address these issues.For further information, please visit:
