The European Commission has published a call for proposals entitled 'Feed Trials KBBE 2013'. This new call comes under the FP7 specific programme 'Cooperation'. In order to be placed on the European market, genetically modified (GM) food and feed must be safe in terms of impact on human and animal health and the environment. Those looking for authorisation must carry out a 90-day feeding study for each submitted GMO dossier, and a two-year carcinogenicity study with rats may also be requested by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on a case-by-case basis. In this context, EFSA has been requested to assist the Commission in providing supplementary guidance on key elements to consider for the two-year trial. This call for proposal will see one project being funded for the execution of at least one rat feeding trial with GM maize NK 603. The project is also expected to analyse, report and provide recommendations as to the scientific justification and added value of such long-term feeding trials. The European Union contribution shall not exceed EUR 3,000,000 per proposal, and the duration of the proposed project shall be maximum 4 years. To see the official call announcement, please consult: http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/page/call_FP7?callIdentifier=FP7-KBBE-2013-FEEDTRIALS&specificProgram=COOPERATION#wlp_call_FP7 To see partnership requests for this call, please consult: CORDIS Partners Service
