Increasing global demand for energy to power economic growth requires the development of cost-effective technologies for a more sustainable energy economy for Europe and the world. Assisting the actors involved in this ambitious objective, CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, has launched a new information service on Energy Research in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This new service has been designed to support the development of cost-effective technologies in response to the growing global demand for energy, particularly within Europe. As outlined on the 'About Energy' page, funding will be given to projects addressing such topics as sustainable energy sources, and efficient energy and pollution-reducing technologies. Details of the energy work programme and objectives are also available on this page. For guidance, practical information and assistance on all aspects of participation in FP7, there is a page with contact information for the network of National Contact Points (NCPs). The information from NCPs, ranging from academic institutions to ministries, is in the proposers' own language and reflects different national environments. Other services include the new Enquiry Service that replaces the traditional Help Desk e-mail service, IGLO (Informal Group of RTD Liaison Offices), and the CORDIS Mini-Guide. An 'Events' page gives details of important relevant conferences. Information on past events, with downloadable agenda and presentations, where available, is also accessible. Where further documents, publications and newsletters on Energy under FP7 are required, a vast library is at hand. Legislative documents, work programmes, all FP7 official documents, and a wide range of other publications are available. Finally, a 'Useful Links' section has additional information on the fields of energy research, policy initiatives, EU institutions and services and more, including a link to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
