The European Commission, DG XI, has published a call for proposals aimed at promoting harmonization in the field of safety of nuclear installations. The European Commission, in order to achieve a progressive harmonization of safety requirements of nuclear installations, contributes to the performance of technical studies and other activities on key safety issues aimed at establishing a set of widely accepted safety criteria. The present call will give priority to initiatives based on an effective cooperation between Member States' safety authorities, technical safety organizations and the nuclear industry. The following areas of interest have been identified: - Level 1 of probabilistic safety assessment (PSA); - Determination of off-site releases of design basis accidents (DBAs); - Safety critical software; - Fuel cladding failure criteria (CFC). The projects to be proposed should tackle one of a number of key safety issues, falling within the above technical areas of interest, identified in the tender documents. For further information on this and on conditions for the submission of proposals, please consult the original tender notice in the Official Journal of the European Communities. All applications for funding should be sent, by mail only, to: European Commission DG XI - Environment, nuclear safety and civil protection Unit XI/C-2 - Safety of nuclear installations 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels
