The European Environment Agency is currently funding work on the development of "Guidelines for data collection on costs of possible environmental protection measures". These guidelines will be published in the Agency's Technical Report series. The guidelines will aim to improve the comparability of environmental cost data and will support the Agency in future work on comparing and aggregating data at a European level. Consultations will be held with relevant experts, environmental cost data-users and other interested parties. The consultation process will invite comments on draft guidelines and identify current practices relating to environmental cost data collection and reporting. The consultation process will include the distribution of monthly newsletters and direct consultation with data collectors and other stakeholders. It will conclude with a workshop in October or November 1998, in the United Kingdom, to review the draft guidelines and to discuss further areas of work. The project began in January 1998 and will run for up to one year. The project team is led by consultancy bodies in the UK, France and Norway.
