EPIC workshops on software process improvement
Exchanging Process Improvement experiences (EPIC) is a European Systems and Software Initiative (ESSI) project of the ESPRIT programme's Software Best Practices (SBP) domain. The EPIC project will last for two years, and started in January 1997. EPIC aims to pilot innovative means of disseminating new software technologies and developments, using multimedia-based, geographically distributed events. It will address the problems in effective technology transfer which have arisen due to the nature of the software development industry, largely composed of numerous small software production units, focused on different application domains. In particular, these conditions result in the clustering of companies in specific application domains, resulting in different development practices and business needs. In order to circulate practical experience on Software Process Improvement, a series of targeted "virtual" events will be held throughout Europe. The main workshops planned in 1998 include: - Process Improvement and production: Quality and testing, 28 April 1998; - Process measures and return on investment, 12 May 1998; - Software houses, 30 June 1998; - Process Improvement and new technologies, 8 September 1998; - Process Improvement and ISO 9000, 6 October 1998. The target audience is middle and senior management, and in particular, project leaders, department leaders and R&D managers. Particular attention will be given to involving people outside the ESSI community and those from non-IT companies.
