The European Commission, DG I, has published a restricted invitation to tender concerning technical assistance services for the EU-China programme for the development of vocational training for industry. The tender concerns the management and implementation of training projects designed to strengthen the capacity of Chinese training centres to develop training schemes based on requests from the industry. Such training projects will associate mainly Sino-European joint ventures, Chinese training institutions and EU expertise to design tailor-made training modules for skilled workers and technicians from companies. EU experts will transfer methodologies to Chinese training teachers. These projects will operate from premises in Wuhan, Hubei Province, although a number of activities will be carried out outside the town of Wuhan. The tender will cover the management of the programme, in particular: diffusion of information and results, assessment of candidate companies and training centres, relations with Chinese training institutions and authorities, administrative supervision, identification and coordination of short-term EU experts for individual training projects, and management of the financial envelope for individual projects. The budget for the management and accompanying activities is expected to be set at ECU 2.2 million and that for training projects at ECU 12 million. The Commission intends to send invitations to tender to between eight and twelve companies, as a result of the submissions made in response to this call. Invitations to tender will be sent out by 1 August 1998 at the latest. Applications should be sent to: European Commission DG I - External relations Head of Unit Relations with Far-eastern countries - Unit F/2 200 rue de la Loi (CHAR 15/74) B-1049 Brussels
