The European Commission, DG III, has published an invitation to tender concerning a study on the classification of standardization requirements in electronic commerce. As anticipated in the Commission's recent communications "Standardization and the global Information Society: the European approach" (COM(96) 359), and "A European initiative in electronic commerce" (COM(97) 157), the study will cover the following areas: - Defining and describing a reference model for global, open and ubiquitous electronic commerce; - Analysing current market developments in support of this open model; - Analysing prospects for consensus-based commercial solutions for promoting an open environment; - Assessing the need for legal and regulatory actions to protect fair competition and to back interoperability legally; - Constructing a classification of standardization-related policy actions in support of the open global reference model.
