TRAIN-IT is an ESPRIT project which aims to help stimulate start-up companies generated from completed and ongoing projects of the ESPRIT programme. TRAIN-IT was launched in December 1997, as a pilot accompanying measure to the ESPRIT programme, and will run for two years. The project identifies people with innovative business ideas, who are or have been involved in ESPRIT projects, and who want to start up companies. These companies would market ESPRIT project results in the form of new technologies, products, services or new applications. TRAIN-IT aims to provide active advice, training and full support in the formulation of some 60 business plans, leading to the successful implementation of around 30. In effect, TRAIN-IT offers a "one-stop training shop for IT start-ups" by providing: - Specific training in all aspects of starting up a technology-oriented company; - Advice in compiling the business plan; - Arranging the financial support through contacting banks and venture capitalists; - Assistance with the foundation process and overcoming bureaucratic hurdles. The first courses are planned to start in August 1998 and are open in principle to any information technology-oriented entrepreneur, however preference will be given to those who work, or have worked, on an ESPRIT project.
