Since its introduction last autumn, over 8,000 people have registered to use the CORDIS RAPIDUS service. If you have not yet taken advantage of the time-saving convenience that this new feature can offer you, here are a few examples of some specific ways that RAPIDUS can be used to help you be more informed. The RAPIDUS "search profile" is basically a saved search on CORDIS. Since CORDIS databases are updated very often, RAPIDUS can help you easily stay on top of key information as it is added to CORDIS. For example, if you often check the CORDIS News Service for new calls for proposals, or information on important R&D events coming up, all you have to do is follow a few basic steps.... 1. Specify the information you want to search for. 2. From a CORDIS search screen (for example NEWS) click on "RAPIDUS: save search". 3. The next screen will ask you for your user name and password, or if you don't have one you can click on "Register now" to get one. 4. When new information is added to CORDIS that matches your saved "Search Profile" you will automatically be sent an e-mail. 5. Your RAPIDUS e-mail will include the information you requested. Here are a few other examples of how RAPIDUS can be used to get timely messages from other CORDIS databases: - Partners: If you are looking for a research partner, RAPIDUS can be very useful, especially since new information is added to the Partners database daily. For example, if you are looking to partner with a biotechnology company in Belgium that specializes in the food industry and you don't find a good match with your initial WWW search, you can click on "RAPIDUS: save search" and be notified as soon as another organization that fits your description is added to the service. - Projects: If you are interested in submitting a project proposal and are interested in what types of projects have been accepted in your field, RAPIDUS can also be quite helpful. For example, if you would like to know when any new projects are accepted in the ESPRIT programme that have a manufacturing application, all you need to do is search CORDIS once, save your search, and wait for your ongoing RAPIDUS notifications via e-mail. - Results: And, if you frequently check the CORDIS Results Service in search of a research result or available technology that you can apply in work that you are doing, RAPIDUS can save you some time. For example, if you are interested in collaborating via a joint venture agreement on a new technology dealing with energy conservation and efficiency using solar energy, simply make your search, review what is currently on-line, save your search and RAPIDUS will act as your research agent.
