Euro Info Centres are specifically designed to provide information on EU activities and initiatives to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). They are centrally located in every Member State, plus Norway and Iceland, and provide local access to a range of valuable European information sources. The staff of EICs are trained to access and provide information to SMEs on all aspects of EU affairs likely to be of interest to local business. Information is provided on many issues including monetary union, EU legislation, EU calls for tender, funding opportunities and participation in European research and development projects. In order to ensure that these valuable sources of information are fully utilized, the European Commission, DG XXIII, has set up "Freephone" telephone numbers in each Member State, plus Norway and Iceland, from where interested parties can obtain the address of their nearest EIC. The freephone numbers, available from 1 June 1998, are as follows: Germany - 00-800-0800-1122; Austria - 0800-201250; Belgium - 00-800-0800-1122; Denmark - 00-800-0800-1122; Spain - 900-983298; Finland - 0800-113241; France - 00-800-0800-1122; Greece - 00800-3212630; Ireland - 1800-553262; Iceland - 00-800-0800-1122; Italy - 167-780674; Luxembourg - 0800-3277; Norway - 00-800-0800-1122; The Netherlands - 00-800-0800-1122 Portugal - 0505-329630; United Kingdom - 0800-7836553; Sweden - 020-931010.
