The European Commission has launched a call for expressions of interest to participate in a partnering event for European and American SMEs, to be held in Dallas, USA, from 14 to 16 April 1999. The event will be jointly organized by the European Commission, the Texan Department of Economic Development and the US Federal Department of Commerce. The aim of the event is to encourage international cooperation and business links between SMEs in the EU and the US and the event will facilitate first contacts, preparation for joint ventures and commercial agreements, and the preparation of joint research activities. The theme of the event will be "Electronic commerce and multimedia technologies". The event is intended to bring about 200 SMEs from the EU into contact with as many companies in the US. Around 150 SMEs will be selected by the "Europartenariat" selection procedure and another 50 will be selected through this call for expressions of interest launched within the framework of the EU's specific RTD programme in the field of Information Technologies (ESPRIT).
