The European Commission, DG XIII, has released the preliminary results of the two calls for proposals, launched in December 1997 and closed in March 1998, within the framework of the EU's Multilingual Information Society programme (MLIS) (OJ No C 381 of 16.12.1997, pp. 29 and ...

The European Commission, DG XIII, has released the preliminary results of the two calls for proposals, launched in December 1997 and closed in March 1998, within the framework of the EU's Multilingual Information Society programme (MLIS) (OJ No C 381 of 16.12.1997 pp. 29 and 30.). These calls concerned the establishment of the electronic forum for terminology and the demonstration of best practice in translation and interpretation. There was significant interest in the two calls for proposals, with around 350 requests for information packages made, and more than 4,500 visits to the MLIS Web pages concerning the calls. A total of 26 proposals were received under the two calls (13 each), with participants from all Member States. The Commission expects to adopt Decisions on the projects to be funded over the summer of 1998. Contract negotiations with successful consortia would then be carried out in September, with selected projects launching from October 1998.
