The European Commission, DG IA, has published a call for proposals for projects to promote exports to Japan. These would be funded within the framework of the EU's Export Promotion programme to Japan, under which funding of up to ECU 700,000 may be available during 1998. Projects eligible for support must: - Fall within the regular business activities of the beneficiary (for example, trade fair participation organized by trade associations); - Complement existing activities of Member States in the area of export promotion to Japan; - Contain a clear European dimension, involving the participation of at least five Member States (with the participation of any one Member State not exceeding 40% of either the total budget or the total number of participants for the planned action); - Concern the promotion of an export opportunity which could not otherwise be undertaken without EU assistance; - Be soundly organized, especially in terms of the respective roles of the participating organizations, having real and transparent management structures, clearly defined cooperation procedures, work schedules and a precise and detailed budget.
