EXPLOIT, a new accompanying measure of the Libraries sector of the EU's Telematics Applications programme, was officially launched in mid-June 1998. The measure is designed to encourage the take-up of the results of some 100 projects and other activities supported by the Libraries sector, under both the Third and Fourth Framework Programmes. Parties potentially interested in these results include libraries, publishers, the book trade, IT industry, research associations and policy-makers. The EXPLOIT measure will be coordinated by the German Libraries Institute (DBI). The other partners are the British Council, and the UK Office for Library and Information Networking (UKOLN) at the University of Bath. Several NFPs (National Focal Points) of the Libraries sector, as well as the Polish and Hungarian FEMIRCs (Fellow Members of the Innovation Relay Centres network) will contribute as subcontractors. The measure includes: - An assessment of projects, followed by analysis and clustering of results; - Creation of a modular toolkit for the presentation of project results at relevant key events; - A start-up event in connection with the Frankfurt Book Fair 1998; - A series of regional workshops; - The establishment of a European Web magazine, with contributions related to the work of the Libraries sector; - The establishment of a database of relevant European and national projects.
