In order to provide a scientific basis for the measurement of the mechanical properties of road safety barriers under dynamic loads, the European Commission, DG III, has issued an invitation to tender for a study on this subject. The study should aim at high accuracy measurements of the mechanical properties (load-displacement and energy absorption characteristics) of real-size road safety barriers, under dynamic loading histories, equal or similar to those originating from the impact of small and large vehicles. The protocol of the tests should be based on parts 1,2 and 3 of the EN standard 1317. The study should be completed within 16 months.
