The Centre for Earth Observation (CEO) programme of the European Commission aims at stimulating the use of earth observation data, and at enhancing European-wide communication in the production and exchange of information and data between earth observation providers and users. The CEO is now in its design and implementation phase which will run from 1996 to 1998. As part of the "user support" component of the programme, the earth observation product development and marketing project will aim to encourage and help European companies and research organisations to provide services to customers. Proposals for the project will build on previous market assessment work, such as the work undertaken in the CEO customer segment workshops. The objective is to develop and provide customers with earth observation derived products or services to meet their needs in specific professional tasks. In addition, proposals will be focused on one or more of the following: - Integrating information into products and services that do not currently utilise earth observation data; - Targeting new geographical markets; - Targeting new or innovative markets; - Developing a product or service, based on a market analysis. The contractor must also set out a marketing plan and must be able to demonstrate the new product or service and produce a plan for promotional activities.
