The second deadline for proposals from European researchers wishing to undertake short-term research visits to the UK's Natural History Museum will be 5 October 1998. Successful applicants will receive funds to support travelling and living expenses under the EU's Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme. The Museum has extensive facilities for research such as the global collection of historical records enabling researchers to address international biodiversity issues, and analytical facilities for the visual analysis of irreplaceable specimens and sensitive chemical analysis. The molecular biology facilities enable phylogenetic analysis of both newly collected material and those in the collections. Scientific studies in the Museum are arranged into the following research themes: - Biomedical sciences; - Environmental quality; - Earth materials, history and processes; - Ecological patterns and processes; - Fauna and flora; - Systematics and evolution.
