The European Commission, DG XI, has launched an open call to tender for a study evaluating RPV cladding materials, including manufacturing and inspection aspects and a report on the role of cladding in RPV safety analyses. The study is aimed at evaluating the state of the art on the role of cladding in RPV safety analyses, on the requirements and specifications from codes, standards and manufacturing practices, and on materials data. This study should provide a basis for harmonization of European practices and identification of approaches for improvement of the existing codes and standards. The nature of the work is essentially focused on pre-harmonization aspects and there is not any intent to include experimental and/or research activities. However, a synthesis of results of completed R&D programmes should also be included. The study should encompass the following items: - Evaluation of cladding aspects in RPV safety assessment; - Evaluation of manufacturing and inspection information; - Evaluation of materials data; - Evaluation of inspection procedures and practices. The study should be completed within 24 months following the signature of the contract. Tenderers must demonstrate experience in this area, and propose an organization with representatives from several EU Member States. Requests for tender specifications, and completed tenders, should be sent to: European Commission DG XI - Environment, nuclear safety and civil protection Mr. B. Sinnott 200 rue de la Loi (TRMF 4/87) B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2994449
