The European Commission, DG XIII, has released details of the results of the fourth call for proposals under the Telematics Applications RTD programme launched on 17 December 1996 (OJ No C 381 of 17.12.1996). The call addressed all sectors of the programme except Telematics Engineering and programme support measures. A total of 712 proposals, requesting funding of ECU 870 million, were submitted by the April 1997 deadline. Some 184 proposals were selected for funding of ECU 162 million. The number of proposals selected in each sector is as follows: - Administrations: 10; - Transport: 36; - Research: 10; - Education and training: 6; - Urban and rural areas: 4; - Healthcare: 27; - Disabled and elderly: 21; - Environment: 5; - Libraries: 26; - Information engineering: 16; - Language engineering: 23. In addition, one proposal was selected (from seven submitted) under the rolling call for proposals for programme support actions launched in September 1995 (OJ No C 240 of 15.9.1995 p. 11). This call also closed in April 1997. The fifth call under the Telematics Applications programme, covering only a limited number of tasks in the Telematics for Research sector was published in March 1997. This has now closed. No further calls are expected to be published in the Telematics field under the Fourth Framework Programme.
