The European Commission, DG XII, has published the proceedings of a workshop on "Eastern Europe and global change" which took place in Halkidiki, Greece, from 3 to 10 October 1994. The workshop, which was sponsored by the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of Environment and Climate, was attended by over 100 scientists from 22 countries, of which 12 from Eastern Europe. Lectures and seminars focused on the major topics of global change, including: climate change, man's impact on the environment, regional issues, technologies for global change and biogeochemical cycles. As a result of the workshop a number of areas were identified for joint research activities of importance to Eastern European countries. These included: - Collection and analysis of geographical data for global change; - Global change and atmospheric chemistry, including air pollution; - Ecosystems interactions and global change; - Human dimensions of global change.
