A total of 24 new "Telematics for Libraries" projects and concerted actions will receive funding of approximately ECU 10 million from the European Commission following evaluation of proposals submitted under the fourth call for proposals for the Telematics Applications programme (OJ No C 381 of 17.12.1996). This was the second call to cover the "Libraries" sector of the Telematics Applications programme and covered the full scope of the sector's work programme, including accompanying measures and concerted actions. In all, 83 proposals were received, of which 75 were considered eligible and put forward for technical evaluation. Following evaluation, 39 proposals emerged with a favourable classification of "Retain" or "Considered". This produced a short list of 26 proposals that, after recommended merges, will produce 24 projects and concerted actions, and a reserve list of 13 proposals. The projects selected cover a wide geographical spread and involve participants from a range of organizations and institutions. The educational sector is, as could be expected, the sector with the greatest number of participants. Industrial and research organizations are, however, also well represented. A good proportion of proposals also involved countries from Central and Eastern Europe.
