The European Commission's Information Society Activity Centre (ISAC) has released the results of its 1997 survey on the use and awareness of Information Society technologies and services in the European Union. The study, "Measuring the Information Society", replies to the high demand from European marketers and researchers for sound qualitative data on the development and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The 1997 survey follows on from a pilot study carried out in 1995 by EOS Gallup and is based on over 15,000 face-to-face interviews conducted throughout the European Union. The survey results provide a country by country picture of use and awareness of IT technologies (Part 1) and applications (Part 2), as well as an indication of the impact of socio-demographic factors (sex, age, level of education, composition of household, occupation, working environment and urbanization).
