The 1998 catalogue of BCR Certified Reference Materials is now available. Published by the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), part of the Joint Research Centre, the catalogue provides a complete listing of certified reference materials (CRMs) produced by the IRMM, as well as sales conditions, price listings and details of authorized distributors. Reference materials and certified reference materials are necessary for the validation of methods, control charts, intercomparisons, etc., and are essential for good analytical quality control. Since the formation of the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) in 1973, the European Union has played an increasingly important role in the production of CRMs for various fields. The 1998 catalogue of BCR Certified Reference Materials includes CRMs in the following fields: - Environment; - Occupational hygiene; - Water and food microbiology; - Food and agriculture; - Clinical chemistry; - Physical properties; - Industrial raw materials and products. The updated catalogue features 17 new CRMs certified in the course of 1997.
