The EuroPrix MultiMediaArt is a new award in creativity aiming at distinguishing excellence in European multimedia. It is organized under the auspices of the European Commission (DG XIII/E) within the INFO2000 programme and the Austrian Ministry for Economic Affairs, and will be a major focus of the Austrian Presidency of the EU. The EuroPrix is specifically designed to promote European producers and products in multimedia. Participation is open to all who produce marketable multimedia products in the EU, the European Economic Area and from the 10 applicant countries to EU enlargement. The award involves leading broadcasters, print media and the MIDAS-NET nodes established under the INFO2000 programme. Applications are invited in five categories, as follows: - Knowledge and discovery; - Valorization of European culture; - Supporting SMEs in the market place; - Improving democracy with multimedia; - First steps in multimedia. The best three products in each category will be nominated and showcased at a special presentation at Frankfurt Book Fair in October 1998, and the winners will be announced in Vienna in December 1998. The EuroPrix Website, a CD-ROM and catalogue will publicize the products and their achievements.
