The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), part of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, has published a study on socio-economic aspects of individual mobility. Most research on transport innovation has focused on technological development. However, socio-economic considerations play an important role in the use of transport and in the choice of modes of transport. The study suggests that any analysis of new transport concepts, whether retrospective or prospective, must combine technological considerations with socio-economic ones. The report aims at providing an overview of recent findings on possible strategies for moving towards sustainable mobility. It focuses on individual mobility, looking at the determinants of mobility behaviour and associated lifestyles.
