The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) has published a call for expressions of interest for potential contractors to assist in the implementation of its 1998-2000 work programme. The Centre has the objective of providing the EU and its Member States with objective, reliable and comparable information at European level on drugs and drug addiction and their consequences. Individuals and private and public organizations which wish to be considered for inclusion on the lists of potential contractors should submit an official application form, obtainable from the Centre, for each of the areas below in which they are interested: - A: Consolidating and improving the epidemiological information system on drugs on the basis of agreed sets of core data; - B: Consolidating and improving the drugs demand reduction information systems on the basis of specific quality criteria; - C: Improving and developing reliable and comparable methods, data systems and key indicators in the field of epidemiology; - D: Improving and developing reliable and comparable methods for the assessment and evaluation of interventions in the field of drugs demand reduction; - E: Improving the quality of the annual report on the state of the drugs problem in the EU, the visibility of the Centre's activities and the REITOX network, and the storage and dissemination of information collected and produced by the Centre; - F: Developing structured cooperation with the international partners of the Centre and ensuring synergies and complementarity with EU programmes and activities; - G: Gradually developing tools and methodologies towards the comparison of interventions, legislation, strategies and policies in the EU (including cost-effectiveness evaluation). A more detailed list of the tasks required may be found in the call for expressions of interest. Existing national focal points with the REITOX network and international partner organizations will automatically be included on the lists of potential contractors.
