INFOSEC is an initiative of the European Commission, DG XIII, for the security of telecommunications and information systems. This initiative has contributed to the delivery of high quality information security, with studies and pilots carried out under the programme addressing the complex legal, regulatory and technical issues in the field of information security. In order to build on these previous studies and to explore new areas of interest, a second phase of investigative work has been launched - ETS II (European Trusted Services). Details of the new projects selected following the call for proposals published on 3 July 1997 (OJ No S 126 of 3.7.1997 p. 29) are available on the INFOSEC home page. They include: - KEYSTONE: addressing candidate architectures, including standard interfaces and protocols and service profiles; - SEDUCER and LEGAL: developing technical and legal "Frameworks for Trust" for security products, systems and services; - BESTS: analysis and development of the principles required for the commercial offering of ETS services; - COMETS: analysis and development of a cost model for service provision; - PITA: analysis and implementation issues concerning "time stamping services"; - TRUSTWEB: analysis and recommendations for security on the World Wide Web.
