INCOCO-S was a European funded project within the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) whose ultimate aim was to develop an integrated business process reference model for diverse industrial services including Third party logistics (3PL), maintenance, modernisation (retrofit), packaging, as well as quality control services which are increasingly outsourced. Specifically, the project aimed to enhance European leadership in manufacturing system development and develop a set of methods to improve the overall performance of European and international operating production systems through synchronised and well-coordinated integration of the different supporting services into supply chains.

The project addressed the four following unique components in integrated service supply chains:
- development of an innovative framework including various business processes, interdependences, information flows and performance metrics for assessing the performance impact of service providers;
- use of the framework for radical breakthroughs concerning the application of embedded sensor systems to optimise remote connectivity and the synchronisation of decision support systems;
- development of a collaborative simulation environment to facilitate planning and decision making in an integrated and multidisciplinary environment, to force innovation and learning in multi-stakeholder networks and to be applied to professional development and training;
- integration of linkages of: a) Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); east European countries including Russia; European manufacturing industries to specify industrial and societal requirements and evaluate outcomes in a comprehensive text.
