Project Proposal
Development of a European data collection network on attitudes toward privatization of public enterprises and participation in decission making through action researchTitle: Development of a European data collection network on attitudes toward privatization of public enterprises and participation in decission making through action research
Type Details: Inspiration for development of European data gathering network gave the 2003 and 2007 representative local survey findings indicating the existence of the discrepancy between the preferences of the relative or absolute majority of respondents concerning models of privatization and participation in Serbia on the one hand, and the related legislative regulation and practice on the other (Vratusa, V. 2005: Attitudes Toward Privatization in Serbia at the End of the Twentieth and the Beginning of the Twenty First Century, Milic, Andelka, ed., Transformation and Strategies, ISIFF, Beograd, ISBN 86-80269-88-3, 61-85, http://www.veravratusa.org/strat05privconcl.doc ).
Simultaneous prerequisite and expected result of the international data gathering on ownership re-structuration and participation is the construction of a common research instrument. It would enable systematic collection of comparable and longitudinal data.
The proposed international network should provide coordination for relevant primary and secondary data gathering by interested researchers through various methods, including participatory action research, in the attempt to answer the question whether this gap between attitudes toward privatization of public services and participation in decision making on the one hand and real development processes on the other exists in other European countries as well, and whether the clash between the desired and the real diminished or increased in the meantime.
The main aim of the proposed international data gathering is to contribute to the critical reflection on social relations' and ownership structure's transformation strategy that increases the satisfaction of needs and democratic participation in sustainable development of the majority of citizens, instead the profits and power of the few generating recolonisation complex disasters.
