The European Commission, DG VII, has published an invitation to tender concerning a study on the economic importance of the transport sector. This invitation to tender concerns a study aimed at collecting data on important socio-economic aspects of transport (time series 1980-96 on employment, value created, tax and other public revenues, public expenditure and investment in the transport sector by mode and by EU Member State, economic parameters of transport equipment). This includes the collection of available statistical data and estimating missing data in order to provide consistent time series. The Commission thus intends to obtain coherent information on important socio-economic aspects of transport. The information is required for various policy purposes. The study should be completed within six months.
