The Statistical Office of the European Community (EUROSTAT) has published an invitation to tender for the selection of organizations or individuals to undertake research work relating various thematic domains in official statistics for scientific and technical support activities, undertaken within the framework of the Fourth RTD Framework Programme. The contract is divided into lots and tenderers may apply for one, several or all lots, however tenders for parts of lots are not accepted. The lots are as follows: - Lot 1: Social reporting: reconciliation of sources and dissemination of data; - Lot 2: Total survey design model; - Lot 3: Computer assistance system for seasonal adjustment; - Lot 4: Neural networks, achievements and perspectives; - Lot 5: Representing and analysing non-numerical data; - Lot 6: Data fusion; - Lot 7: Hierarchical and multilevel models; - Lot 8: A feasibility study on the applications of Bayesian methods of inference for the treatment and analysis of official statistical data; - Lot 9: Network for computer-assisted training systems (CATS); - Lot 10: Development of a centre for demonstration, trial and optimization of statistical IT systems; - Lot 11: Meta analysis; - Lot 12: Virtual European statistical laboratory; - Lot 13: Electronic commerce and statistics; - Lot 14: Design of an integrated statistical meta-information system and creation of a CD-ROM on metadata for use in national statistical institutes; - Lot 15: Development and evaluation of practical system of model-based small-area estimations; - Lot 16: Variance calculation of software evaluation and improvement; - Lot 17: Comparability of statistical concepts; - Lot 18: Neural networks for the estimation of missing data; - Lot 19: Development of a micro-aggregation system for confidential data; - Lot 20: Development of advanced corroboration - verification techniques for the models embedded in geographical information systems; - Lot 21: Integration of statistical software into databases; - Lot 22: Intrusion detection for sensitive statistical data; - Lot 23: Research on the usage of new technology for the control of data quality in the transmission system; - Lot 24: Monitoring the European statistical system during the enlargement process; - Lot 25: Construction of a hazardous waste index based on production-related country-specific technical coefficients; - Lot 26: Computer-aided price collection in consumer price indices (CPIs)/harmonized indices of consumer prices (HICPs); - Lot 27: External evaluation of research results; - Lot 28: Research support for the development of maritime transport statistics.
