Persons or organizations wishing to appear on a list of potential contractors to assist the European Commission, DG XVII, in scientific and technical support activities for obsolete power stations are invited to submit expressions of interest. The assistance required relates to the obsolescence of power stations in the EU Member States, Central and Eastern Europe and in the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union. The Commission seeks to develop a European approach to determine better the residual life span of these installations, to help towards greater harmonisation and promote the establishment of the free market for associated services and equipment. The contracts, for which the list will be compiled, will involve the following services: - General or technical studies; - Management, coordination and follow-through of projects carried out in this area; - Organisation of conferences or seminars. In relation to actual research to be carried out, the following will be required: - Collection and development of a database holding information concerning the life-span of equipment and power stations based on feedback experience; - Development of a database holding information concerning components, structures, experimental models and test storage blocks used in Europe within the framework of the training and service inspection qualification (non-destructive inspection); - Development and application, as part of the pilot study of a European approach to technical justification, of the non-destructive inspection qualification of crucial power station equipment (within the framework of the European Network for Inspection Qualification network).
