Promoting EU-Asian cooperation in environmental industry
Singapore's Regional Institute of Environmental Technology (RIET) is a non-profit making business facilitator, specifically created to encourage technical, economic and industrial cooperation between Europe and Asia, by promoting best environmental practices and technologies. Projects involving awareness building, competence training and information dissemination enable RIET to fulfil its role in facilitating economic joint ventures and cooperation between technology owners and suppliers in Europe with Asian entrepreneurs. The services offered by RIET include: - The Asia Ecobest programme, a five-year economic programme aimed at providing financial support for economic transfer of technology competence to Asia. Also within this framework, RIET provides electronic commerce oriented Web page development and management support, enabling emerging companies not yet active in Asia to test the market for their products through Web-based interactive links; - The Asia Environmental Trader (AET), a fortnightly e-mail service providing information on environmental business opportunities, technology for commercialisation, and calls for tender for companies interested in Asian, European and international markets; - The EnvWebCommerce (EWC) service provides environmental companies with Web development services, and assists SMEs in the Asian environmental industry to capitalise on Web technology; - The RIET Cyber Exchange (RCE), aiming at the international promotion of both European and Asian organisations by providing advertising opportunities through the RIET Website; - The RIET News service, a weekly e-mail service on environmental news, trends and developments in the region.
