The results of a study on issues related to the emerging network economy, financed within the framework of the EU's programme for multimedia development (INFO2000), have recently been published. The study entitled "Content and Commerce Driven Strategies in Global Networks" (CONDRINET) provides a comprehensive overview of the forces shaping the development of the network economy in Europe, focusing primarily on the interactive content industry and describing its transformation from its roots in traditional media through to its expansion into a digital interactive environment. The overall objective was to deliver pragmatic recommendations and advice for conducting commerce in a network environment to ensure its full benefits are realised within the European Union. All aspects of the digital media industry are dealt with in the report which has been designed to meet the needs of a variety of users. Each chapter contains a short summary of the issues discussed and includes examples supporting the related concepts and issues. Chapters four to ten each conclude with a list of related recommendations specifically targeting businesses, content firms and governments, in order to help create a more useful tool for managers and business strategists. The following chapters are contained in the report: - Chapter 1: An overview of the study, detailing key findings and the analysis used; - Chapter 2: Setting the context; - Chapter 3: Introducing the interactive content-value web; - Chapter 4: Mapping the industry landscape; - Chapter 5: Building network commerce business models; - Chapter 6: Determining end-user needs and market potential; - Chapter 7: Understanding technology enablers; - Chapter 8: Framing legal and regulatory issues; - Chapter 9: Identifying key financial drivers and constraints; - Chapter 10: Exploring the broader implications.
