The third edition of Oppenheim's "Legal and regulatory environment for electronic information" has recently been published. The publication serves as a reference for all those working in the world of electronic information and provides guidance to this highly complex legal area. This new edition describes the regulatory environment for information in electronic format, an environment much less certain than that for information in printed form, which is firmly rooted in national copyright acts. Issues relating to interlinked, transparent global networks are also discussed from a regulatory viewpoint. The new features of this edition include: - An expansion of the legal ramifications of the Internet and their implications; - A new chapter on the problem of network domain names; - A new chapter on the problem of the conflict of laws in a global, network environment; - A discussion of the proposed EU Directive on copyright and related rights; - EU database law and its implications; - Expanded discussion on Internet copyright; - Advice on how to avoid legal problems when hyperlinking; - Developing the site licence concept; - Spamming and the legal liability of Internet service providers.
